A German touring exhibition focuses on the theme of the dragon and its use in many cultures as a corporate symbol. Wales, of course is proud to display the dragon on her flag and is just one of many countries included in the exhibition.

Der Drache ist das Symbol von Cardiff und von Wales. In vielen walisischen Geschichten und Legenden begegnen wir der Figur des Drachens. Aber nicht nur in Wales, auch die Sagen von Baden-Württemberg erzählen von den Drachen.
In Wales und Baden-Württemberg finden wir an vielen Plätzen, Orten, an Hauswänden, Portalen, Brunnen, in Kirchen das Motiv des Drachens als Malerei, Relief oder als dreidimensionale Figur. Der schwäbische Drache ist der Lindwurm.
Sein wissenschaaftlicher Name lautet Plateosaurus.
Er ist nicht nur eine Gestalt der Legenden, sondern auch Forschungsgegenstand der Stuttgarter Wissenschaftler des Naturkundemuseums.
Bei Stuttgart befindet sich in Holzmaden, am Fuße der schwäbischen Alb, einer der berühmtesten Fundorte der 225 Millionen alten Saurier. Saurier haben schon immer die Fantasie über Drachen beflügelt.
Der Wohnort von Drachen ist in den Märchen oft eine Höhle. Die schwäbische Alb bei Stuttgart ist reich davon.
In Cardiff begrüßt uns ein roter Drache in einer Flagge. In Stuttgart bewachen steinerne Drachen die Briefkästen des Stuttgarter Rathauses. So können wir mit dieser Drachenausstellung auch das Jubiläum einer 10-jährigen Drachenfreundschaft zwischen dem Drachen der Flagge von Cardiff und den Drachen des Stuttgarter Rathauses feiern.
Den Künstlerinnen von FORUM KÜNSTLERINNEN Stuttgart war dies ein Anlass, sich in ihren Arbeiten mit dem Motiv des Drachens auseinanderzusetzen.
In der Literatur ist der Drache oftmals der Überwinder von Raum und Zeit. Überwinden Sie die Zeit mit Hilfe der Drachen. Tauchen Sie ein in die Sphäre der Drachenbilder, in die Kreativität und Fantasie, deren Räume unendlich sind. So hoffen wir, dass die Freundschaft unserer Städte ebenso unendlich fortgesetzt wird. Die Künstlerinnen von FORUM KÜNETLERINNEN Stuttgart möchten Ihren Dank dafür aussprechen, dass ihre Drachenbilder in Cardiff, im Land des roten Drachen willkommen sind.

The dragon is the symbol of Cardiff and Wales. In many Welsh stories and legends we meet the dragon. But not only in Wales, the legends of Baden-Wuerttemberg tell us about dragons, too.
In both states the image of the dragon can be found in paintings, as reliefs or three-dimensional sculptures in many places, walls, portals, fountains and churches. The Swabian dragon is called lindworm.
Its scientific name is Plateosaurus
It is not only a figure in legends, but also an object of scientific research of scientists working in the Museum of Natural Science in Stuttgart. Near Stuttgart there is Holzmaden at the edge of the Swabian Alb, one of the most famous places where dinosaurs lived 150 million years ago.
In fairy tales the places where dragons habitated used to be caves. The Swabian Alb is full of caves.
In Cardiff a red dragon welcomes us in the Welsh emblem. In Stuttgart dragons made of stone are guards of the letter boxes of Stuttgart's town hall.
The dragon exhibition celebrates the jubilee of a 50 year old friendship between those dragons.Celebrating this jubilee the artists of FORUM KUENSTLERINNEN discuss the image of the dragon in different makes and techniques. As the dragon is regarded to go beyond space and time we have the chance to do so as well by watching the pieces of art and we hope that friendship between our twin cities will also continue.
The artists of FORUM KUENSTLERINNEN Stuttgart thank Cardiff for being welcomed in the land of the red dragon.
